Requirements for Validation in Italy of  Medical Academic Degrees obtained in the United States of America

The application for validation of Medical academic degrees obtained in the United States must be submitted by the interested party directly to the Italian Ministry of Health as per the guidelines listed on its website.

All academic and professional documents must first need to be authenticated by the corresponding Italian consulate with jurisdiction over the area where the American college/university is located.

  1. For documents issued in Italy, a self-certification letter is sufficient.
  2. Academic and professional documents issued in the United States, on the other hand, must bear the corresponding notarized signature and apostille.
  3. All academic documents and professional certificates must be accurately and thoroughly translated into Italian, and the translation must be authenticated by the corresponding consulate.
  4. Prospective medical students must have their American credentials and transcripts evaluated by the International Institute of Education (IIE) based in New York. There’s a fee to be paid for this service to the IIE. Please contact the Student Office for an update on the current fee.
  5. Follow all the instructions listed on attachment D1 below.
