The cinema festival of Taormina comes to the United States with the first edition of TaorminaFilmFest Los Angeles with the Italian Cultural Institute in LA. Two evenings filled with films and events on January 20-21, 2016 with the collaboration of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, and held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles. The protagonists of the festival from Italy are Valeria Golino, Elio Sofia and Francesco Cannavà. Among other Hollywood celebrities Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah, known for their Studio 189 project to promote African culture, will be in attendance.

The realization of the first edition of the TaorminaFilmFest Los Angeles is made possible thanks to an agreement with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in LA, the Consulate General of Italy and the ICE Agency, who believed in the idea of bringing to Los Angeles a selection of Italian and Sicilian independent films. Partners in the project include Gerardo Sacco, master goldsmith and creator of jewelry for many films in the history of Italian and international cinema.

During the first edition of the event in LA two documentaries will be presented in the presence of their respective directors, The Last Reel (L'ultimo metro di pellicola) by Elio Sofia, winner of the first prize for Sicilian Documentary Filmmaker at the 61st edition of TaorminaFilm Fest and The Aeolian Carnival (Il carnevale eoliano) by Francesco Cannavà, second prize for Sicilian Documentary Filmmaker. The documentary Phil Stern. Sicily 1943, War and Soul (Phil Stern. Sicilia 1943, la guerra e l'anima), written and directed by Ezio Costanzo and Filippo Arlotta and winner of the first prize in the documentary section at the Sicily Est Festival Cinema 2015 will also be screened.

The renowned American photographer, who passed away in December 2014 in Los Angeles at the age of 95, is the subject of a special tribute by the Institute with a photography exhibition by Carmelo Nicosia, Phil Stern. Welcome back to Sicily, which will be inaugurated during the opening of TFF Los Angeles with the presence of his son Peter Stern and his granddaughter Ashley Stern. Kennedy, during WWII Stern followed the USA troops documenting the liberation of the Italian island and the advancement of the Allies. Joe Buscaino, Councilman to the 15th District, will attend the opening and documentary screening and will honor with an award from the city of Los Angeles Peter Stern for the Phil Stern project and Tiziana Rocca per the first edition of the ToarminaFilmFest Los Angeles.

Given the social commitment of TFF, Cecilia Peck, a prominent figure during the last edition of Taormina, will present her documentary Brave Miss World, which explores the trauma of sexual violence. The director, daughter of the unforgettable Gregory Peck, will open her home full of memories of her father for an exclusive party to honor the first edition of ToarminaFilmFest Los Angeles.

The presentation of the TaorminaFilmFest Los Angeles Awards to Steven Gaydos, Executive Editor of Variety and Valeria Golino will close the evening followed by the screening of Per amor vostro by Giuseppe M.
