President Mattarella meets Vice President Biden and, on Capitol Hill, House Speaker Ryan and Minority Leader Pelosi



The third day of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella’s visit to the United States started with a breakfast with some important US opinion makers: Thomas Friedman, New York Times, Jim Hoagland, Washington Post, and William Kristol, ABC News.
The Vice President of the United Sates Joe Biden will host President Mattarella for lunch. Next, Mr. Mattarella will visit Capitol Hill and hold talks with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, together with a bipartisan and bicameral representation of Congress leadership. Later on Capitol Hill he will meet with members of the Italian American Congressional Delegation.

After Washington D.C., the President’s following stop in the United States will be on Wednesday, February 10 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where the Head of State will hold talks with the President of the General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. President Mattarella will also visit the Permament Mission of Italy to the United Nations and meet with Italian officials working at the United Nations.

In the afternoon, he will visit Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial, and later greet the Italian community at the Guggenheim museum.

On February 11, President Mattarella will deliver an address at Columbia University, and visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.

On February 12, the Head of State will fly to Houston, the last stop of his visit to the United States, where he will visit the Johnson Space Center and meet with Italian astronauts.
