Giovanni Falcone on “ItalyinUS”: the on-line picture gallery dedicated to judge Falcone at the FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Washington, May 23, 2016 – Giovanni Falcone is remembered as a hero also in the United States, and especially by the FBI. To commemorate the 24th anniversary of the massacre of Capaci, the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C. published a gallery of pictures made available by the FBI depicting the permanent exhibition dedicated to judge Falcone at the FBI Headquarters, and a bronze bust of the Italian judge located in a courtyard of the FBI Academy in Quantico, where prospective FBI agents undergo training every year. The FBI honored judge Falcone not only as a hero devoted to pursuing an ideal sense of justice, but also as an important forerunner of international cooperation of the judiciary. Working together on the case known as “Pizza Connection”, during the years of the “Maxi Trial” of Palermo, the FBI and judge Falcone built a special relationship.

The Italian Ambassador to Washington, D.C., Armando Varricchio noted that, “By posting the FBI pictures on our social media we wanted to honor the example set by Giovanni Falcone in Italy, and in the rest of the world. The admiration of the FBI towards judge Falcone comes from direct knowledge of the seriousness and effectiveness of his efforts in the pursuit of justice, as a judge and as a common man. The cooperation between Italy and the United States is excellent today and it continues to grow based upon the foundation laid by judge Falcone and the FBI.”
